This is taken from an ad I saw today for The Times and I think it's so poignant:
Every US president has been married, except one.
Every US president has been raised in the Protestant faith, except one.
Every US president has spoken English as his first language, except one.
Every US president went to school, except one.
Every US president has either finished his term or died in office, except one.
Every US president has been a white male.
It really hit me today just how significant and momentous an event this is, and how proud of my country I feel. It's been a while since I could honestly say that.

Congratulations to all citizens of United States of America. To elect a black man as President takes a lot of soul-searching, balls and many white voters. If Senator Obama can live up to his extraordinary powerful rhetoric he employs with such devastating effect in his speeches, he will become the greatest leader in modern times. Not much competition when you look at the likes of Blair, Brown, Clinton, Bush and Howard to mention a few but...
As a postscript, John McCains speech at the end was one of the most eloquent and generous in spirit that I have ever heard. It was delivered with great humility and feeling and, although its 10 minutes long, I have watched it many times over. Obamas acceptance speech was magical but, then again, it would be, wouldnt it?
Toodle pip!

I was just thinking the other day that my green card has a miniaturized head of every President on the back, and the ONLY reason I could look forward to renewing my green card in a few years time is to get one where finally all the Presidents are not looky-likeys.
